Educational Qualifications:
Apprentice:
Minimum Academic/Technical Qualification for Fresher’s Category
- Fitter: Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education
- Welder (Gas & Electric): Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education
- Medical Laboratory Technicians: Passed 12th class examination under 10+2 system of education with physics, chemistry and biology (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks
Period of Training in Railway Establishment: Two Years/ One year and three months
Minimum Academic/Technical Qualification for EX-ITI Category
Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, mechanic-Motor vehicle:
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) with Science and Mathematics under 10 +2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI
- Should possess a Certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in their relevant Trade
Welder (Gas & Electric), Carpenter, Plumber, Mechanic-Machine Tool Maintenance, Mechanic-Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Mechanic-Diesel, Electronics Mechanic, Painter (General):
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government ITI
- Should possess a Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in their relevant Trade
Wireman:

- Should possess a Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in the Trades of: Information and Communication Technology System Maintenance, Information Technology and Electronic System Maintenance and Broad Based Basic Training in Information Technology Sector under Centre of Excellence Scheme and Advanced module of Centre of Excellence Scheme in Repair and Maintenance of Hardware of Computer and Peripherals.
Draughtsman (Civil):
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10+2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI & should possess Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in their relevant Trade
Advanced Welder:
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI &
- Should possess Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in the Trades of: Broad Based Basic Training in Production and Manufacturing Sector under Centre of Excellence Scheme and Advanced module of Centre of Excellence Scheme in Advance Welding and Welder.
Instrument Mechanic:
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government ITI
- Should possess a Certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in their relevant Trade
SSA (Stenographer & Secretarial Assistant):
- Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of education and passed ITI course in the relevant trade in Government recognized ITI &
- Should possess Certificate issued by National Council for Vocational Training / State Council for Vocational Training in the Trades of: Stenography (English) and Secretarial Practice
Period of Training in Railway Establishment: One year
Note:
- Minimum 50% marks in SSLC not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD Candidates.
- Candidates with higher qualification viz. Diploma/Degree, Engineering, Polytechnic & already a Course Completed Act Apprentices in Railway Establishments are NOT eligible to apply.
Candidates residing in the following locations/areas falling within the Geographical Jurisdiction of Southern Railway alone are eligible to apply.:
- Whole State of Tamil Nadu.
- Whole Union Territory of Puducherry.
- Whole State of Kerala.
- Whole Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands.
- ONLY the two districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor.
- ONLY one district of Karnataka, namely, Dakshina Kannada.
Age Limit(As on 18 July 2024): The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 22/24 years for Freshers/Ex-ITI, MLT, Respectively
Age relaxation: The upper age is relaxable by 3 Years for OBC candidates, 5 Years for SC/ST candidates and 10 Years for Persons with Disability (PwBD).

Stipend: Stipend will be paid as per the directions of Railway Board’s circular RBE 202/2019 dated 26.11.2019 under the directives of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Notification dated 25 September 2019.
Selection Process for Southern Rail Jobs:
- The selection will be on Merit basis
- The Merit list will be prepared by taking the average of the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in both Matriculation [with minimum 50% aggregate marks] and ITI examination giving equal weightage to both.
- All communication from the Administration will be sent by e-mail only and Candidates will be called for Certificate Verification Purpose/Selected/Stand- Bye List which will be uploaded in Southern Railway Website.
